Graphosoma (Graphosomella) inexpectatum,
a new record for the fauna of Turkey
{Hemipteva, Pentatomidae, Podopinae)
Muhabbet Kemal 1 BuketBakan Meltem Yalcin
Abstract: Graphosoma (Graphosomella) inexpectatum, a new record for the fauna of Turkey
(Hemipteva, Pentatomidae, Podopinae). Cesa News 85: 1-4, 7 figs.
This paper deals with the new record of a subgenus Graphosomella, and a species Graphosoma
inexpectatum in Turkey in the subfamily Podopinae (Hemipteva, Pentatomidae). Illustrations of
external features of adults, male, female (allotype) genitalia and habitat of the species are given.
Key words: Graphosoma (Graphosomella) inexpectatum Podopinae Pentatomidae, Hemiptera,
fauna, Turkey, Van, new record.
The genus Graphosoma was established by Laporte in 1833 with the type species Cimex
nigrolineatus Fabricius,i78i, designated subsequently by Reuter (1888). The species nigrolineatus
Fabr. is currently considered as junior synonym of Cimex lineatus Linnaeus,i758. In Rider's
catalogue (2006), totally 9 species are listed validly. These are as follows; alkani Lodos,i959;
consimile Horvath,i903; creticum Horvath,i909; interruptum White,i839; lineatum
Linnaeus,i758; melanoxanthum Horvath,i903; rubrolineatum Westwood,i837; semipunctatum
Fabricius,i775; stali Horvath,i88i. Later, Gapon (2007) proposed creticum Horv. as junior
synonym of semipunctatum Fabr. Carapezza & Jindra (2008) established a new subgenus
Graphosomella (monotypic), and a new species Graphosoma inexpectatum from Syria (Bludan)
based upon two males. The validity of G. alkani Lodos,i959 described from Diyarbakir (Turkey), is
unclear (Carapezza & Jindra, 2008), which is not listed in Turkey (Onder et al.,2006).

During the expeditions in Van Province (East Turkey) in late June 2011, the authors have
collected a series of the specimens of the species Graphosoma inexpectatum Carapezza &
Jindra,20o8 described from Bludan in May and June. This new place in Turkey is nearly located
nearly 800km far from type locality. The information of the new locality of the species, material
examined and descriptive images of the adults are give below:
Graphosoma (Graphosomella) inexpectatum Carapezza & Jindra, 2008
Description: Allotype (?) (Figs.1-3): External morphology, body size, including
colouration similar to holotype. Dorsal and ventral sides, including genitalia are illustrated in both
sexes (Figs.1-6).
Material examined: 6 c?i9$ Turkey, Van Province, Geva§, between Gorimdii and
Altmsag, 1700m, 26.06.2011, 30.06.2011, leg. M. Yalgm, B. Bakan.
Range: The species is known only from type locality Syria (Bludan), and Van Prov.
(Turkey).

This species is recorded for the first time in the fauna of Turkey. Adults were collected on
Smyrnium cordifolium (Apiaceae) (det. Dr.M.Pmar), an Irano-Turanian element, ranging from
East Turkey to Central Asia (Davis, 1985). Habitat of the Graphosoma species is a degraded
Juniperus- Quercus (sporadic) woodland, with sparsely Prunus, Crataegus, Pistacia, Amygdalus,
Rosa bushes, on the rocky slopes and in the openings, Astragalo-Brometea formations (Fig.7).
Totally 6 valid species of the genus Graphosoma (s.l.) are known in Turkey, i.e., consimile
Horvath,i903; lineatum Linnaeus,i758; melanoxanthum Horvath,i903; semipunctatum
Fabricius,i775; stali Horvath,i88i, and inexpectatum Carapezza & Jindra,20o8.

Abstract: On two hibernating beetle species in Van Province (East Turkey) (Coleoptera,
Malachiidae, Elateridae). Cesa News 85: 5-10, 8 figs. 1 map.
This paper deals with the new provincial record of Chionotopus humeralis (Malachiidae), and
Drasterius bimaculatus (Elateridae) in Van Province (East Turkey). Information on localities, and
other accompanying beetle species are given with illustrations in situ and a map.
Key words: Chionotopus humeralis, Malachiidae, Drasterius bimaculatus, Elateridae,
Cantharidae, Lampyridae, Staphylinidae, Carabidae, larva, adult, hibernating, illustration, map,
fauna, Turkey, Van.
In 2010 February, authors realized a winter visit to the district Qatak in Van Province
(Figs.1,2). In this short note, two beetle species are reported as first faunal records in the
province. Several accopanying species in larval and adult stages are also illustrated from the same
places.
We sincerely thank to Dr. Vladimir Svihla for identifying Malachiid species.

Drasterius bimaculatus (Rossi,i790) (Fig.4, Map.i)
Under the stones in the vicinity of stream bank, near Elmaci 1750m (North of Qatak), a
specimen of Drasterius bimaculatus has been found in the province for the first time and during
hibernating. This small-sized species was described by Rossi in 1790 and currently placed in the
genus Drasterius Eschscholtz, 1829. A well known species in the Palaearctic, also in Turkey
ranging from South Europe, Mediterranean countries to Central Asia.
Other beetles accompanying at the same locality, near Elmaci, are the larvae of Cantharidae
(Fig.5), Lampyridae (Fig.6), Staphylinidae (Fig.7), and adult Brachinius sp. (Coleoptera)
(Fig.8), the latter is common in spring in the province.

A nomenclatural note in the family Heleomyzidae
(Diptera)
Ahmet Omer Kocak4 Muhabbet Kemal 5
Abstract: A nomenclatural note in the family Heleomyzidae (Diptera). Cesa News 85: 11.
This nomenclatural note deals with homonymy of Chaetomus Czerny, 1924 (Diptera) and
Chaetomus M'Clelland, 1843 (Pisces). A replacement name, Leanderia nom. nov. is proposed here
for Chaetomus Czerny, 1924 (Heleomyzidae).
Key words: Chaetomus, Leanderia, Scoliocentra, Heleomyzidae, Diptera, nomenclature,
homonymy.
During the Entomofauna Project of the Cesa, the subgenus name Chaetomus proposed by
Czerny in 1924 (Abh. zool- bot. Ges. Wien 15: 158), used currently as valid name for several species
in the Palaearctic 6 , is determined that it is pre-occupied by Chaetomus M'Clelland, 1843 (Pisces)
(Calcutta J. Nat. Hist 4: 405). Under the current rules of the ICZN, Chaetomus Czerny,i924
cannot be used as valid name. There is no junior synonym of Chaetomus Czerny,i924. Therefore,
we propose here a replacement name, Leanderia nom. nov. for Chaetomus Czerny,i924 nee
M'Clelland, 1843. The new name is dedicated to the original author Leander Franz Czerny (1859-
1944), a prominent Austrian dipterist, who published many significant works on Palaearctic
Diptera.
New arrangement of the subgenus Leanderia nom. nov. in the family Heleomyzidae is
given below:
Heleomyzidae
Heleomyzini
Scoliocentra Loew,i862
Leanderia nom. nov.
Syn. Chaetomus Czerny,i924 (pre-occupied)
Scoliocentra (Leanderia) confusa (Wahlgren,i9i8) (comb.n.)
Scoliocentra (Leanderia) flavotestacea (Zetterstedt,i838) (comb.n.)
Scoliocentra (Leanderia) obscuriventris Gorodkov,i972 (comb.n.)
Scoliocentra (Leanderia) biconfusa Gorodkov,i972 (comb.n.)
